Role: Learning Designer | Sector: Higher Education | Tools: Articulate Rise, Canva, Figma, aXcelerate LMS
The Challenge
UQ Skills had a suite of VET programs that were rich in knowledge but locked away in dense, text-heavy documents. With strict compliance requirements and tight delivery timeframes, the existing materials weren’t set up for the kind of engaging online and blended experience modern learners expect. My task was to take this raw, highly technical content and transform it into something clear, interactive, and easy to navigate — without losing any of the rigor that vocational training demands.
The Solution
I led the full transformation process, starting with breaking down the curriculum into meaningful, learner-friendly chunks. Instead of overwhelming pages of text, I re-imagined the content as concise learning points supported by visuals that actually help learners understand rather than simply read.
Using Articulate Rise as the core build tool, I reshaped static content into interactive experiences: labelled graphics, process flows, scenario prompts, and clean visual layouts designed in Canva and Figma. Every design choice reduced cognitive load and made the content more approachable for learners coming from a wide range of backgrounds.
I also handled the technical side — mapping each module to its correct Unit of Competency and configuring the structure in the aXcelerate LMS. This ensured that progress tracking, compliance alignment, and assessment pathways were all seamless behind the scenes.
The Result
The final course was polished, mobile-ready, and genuinely enjoyable to move through — a far cry from the original wall-of-text documents. By managing both the learning design and the technical implementation, I was able to deliver a smooth launch with accurate tracking and no LMS errors. Learners could immediately access their required units, and UQ Skills gained a set of programs that are now much easier to maintain, teach, and scale.
